Sartorial London — Designer Rental Marketplace
A custom Sharetribe Flex marketplace for designer fashion rentals — Stripe security deposits with charge-later capture, a fixed 5-day rental engine, end-to-end shipping fees on rental transactions, custom sent/received/returned states, and a rebuilt landing page. Two paid phases; the client came back for the second.
The Problem
Sartorial London operates a premium designer fashion rental marketplace built on Sharetribe Flex. The platform needed significant custom engineering beyond the default Sharetribe template — a fixed 5-day rental engine, a better mobile browsing experience, a dynamic product discovery component, and a Stripe security-deposit flow.
Their team needed a fast turnaround — custom marketplace features shipped in weeks, not months.
Our Solution
Delivered across two paid phases. Phase 1 (October 2025): shipping fees on rental transactions, the fixed 5-day rental engine, and the landing page rebuild. Phase 2 (January 2026): Stripe security deposits with charge-later capture, and the custom sent/received/returned transaction states. The client came back for the second phase.
Fixed 5-Day Rental Engine
We built a renter-side calendar locked to a 5-day window with auto-calculated end dates and full-window availability validation. The booking flow prevents overlapping rentals and handles edge cases around partial availability.
Custom Featured Fits Carousel
A dynamic component pulling the 5–6 most recent listings via the Sharetribe API, with a CMS section-name override for editorial control — the centrepiece of the rebuilt landing page. This gave shoppers outfit inspiration while reducing friction to purchase.
Mobile Category Grid
Replaced the default vertical slider with a Gucci-inspired 2×2 grid using Tailwind responsive utilities. The result is a faster, more visual browsing experience on mobile devices.
Shipping Fees for Rentals
Extended the pricing logic to add shipping line-items to rental transactions, not just sale items. This required changes to the transaction process at the Sharetribe Console level.
Stripe Security Deposits
Live on the platform: a card is pre-authorised at booking and captured only if needed, within Stripe's 7-day authorisation window. This lets Sartorial charge damage deposits without holding funds needlessly.
Sent / Received / Returned Transaction States
Custom transaction states — sent, received, returned — track a rental garment through its full lifecycle in the Sharetribe transaction process, beyond Sharetribe's default states.
